WEEE REGULATIONS

New regulations now govern electrical equipment waste and disposal. We are sure that you will all be aware that as from July 2007 you will not be allowed to dispose of electrical appliances. You will have already had to forecast the amount of electrical waste you will produce during the coming year and pay the appropriate authority. Now for the difficult part - who on your behalf will take responsibility for the returned products? What you must ensure is that company that has been instructed to handle your electrical waste can comply with the legislation.

THE REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Electrical appliance products dismantled, the mains lead removed, plug removed, metal separated from the plastic and if oil filled radiator is present, the oil has to be drained and kept separate.

Cardboard and packaging either disposed off or recycled.

•

All parts have now to be transferred to a registered recycling centre and you have to ensure that you can show their paperwork and registration number at all times.

Gone are the days when we can just take the units down the tip. Uunless you have the infrastructure in place to be able to set up the required government-endorsed system, you will need a company to be able to undertake this requirement on your behalf.
